OUTWEIGH: We are back with another follow-up to a topic that Amy and Leanne talked about a few weeks ago: How to have BOTH: a healthy relationship with food and your body AND begin to work towards the goals that are important to you (aka getting stronger, fitter, etc).  In that episode, Amy and Leanne explained that you absolutely can go set goals for yourself, but they invite you to take a sabbatical from typical goal-setting and “go-getting” and go heal your relationship with food and your body FIRST and rewire your brain….and then with THAT new brain and that NEW relationship with food a...

Do you know what you really want in life or do you only know what society tells you that you should want? Amy & Kat chat about several different things this week, but the most important part of their conversation is the reminder to ask yourself this question anytime you’re making a decision (especially a big “life” decision): “What part of me wants to do this and why?”  Years ago, Amy was doing everything under the sun to get pregnant because she didn’t want to fail as a woman (so we are made to believe) and it led to some interesting things. Amy found herself getting colonics (yes, THAT ty...

THINGS DISCUSSED: How Trey got his start (as a comedian / influencer) 4 Things Gratitude (Trey shared 4 things he's thankful for)  Growing up in the church (evolving from fundamentalist roots)  Is Trey funny because of hard times he faced as a child? Amy thinks she has her attachment style figured out, but Kat challenges Amy’s self-assessment. Secure attachment is the goal for all of us, and while there’s hope for that, most of us are either avoidant, anxious or disorganized. Do you know your attachment style? An episode of Mel Robbins’ podcast is what got Amy started on attachment styles. You can listen to it HERE.   Quotes from this episode:  -“Your circle is supposed to be proud, not jealous!” -“Some people will judge you for changing. Others will celebrate you for growing. Choose your circle carefully!” -“Parked car conversations ar...

OUTWEIGH: Can you love food AND maintain a healthy relationship with food? We absolutely think so! And that's why we are here to talk about this very important distinction.  These things do NOT have to cancel eachother out or stay mutually exclusive. But...there are some very important distinctions that you want to keep in mind--- especially since there are a lot of mixed messages out there about this topic. Amy & Leanne are back again for the FOURTH episode of the Mini-Series Two Things Can Be True At The Same Time (Normalizing the In-Betweens and Healing From Extremism) where they share t...

“Wonder is the root of love, the lack of wonder is the root of violence.”  Is there a way to create boundaries with someone who wishes to cause harm? Can you love them and hold them accountable? Do you have to fight for a just world for everyone? Valarie Kaur is no stranger to violence. As a Sikh, as a woman, as a person of color, violence has shaped both her activism and her deep sense of community care. Her Revolutionary Love Project is the blueprint for organizers, activists, and really - anyone in love with the world and what it could be.    This week, the activist, and best-selling aut...

OUTWEIGH: You can be on the journey to self-love and self-worth... AND still have really crappy thoughts about yourself show up. Yep....it's true! Even the most confident, self-assured, empowered women can have "ugly" thoughts about themselves. This does NOT have to mean anything, and in fact, it's totally normal. What matters most is how you RESPOND (instead of react) to those thoughts. And that's why on this episode of Outweigh, we share some very important distinctions that you'll want to keep in mind around this subject specifically. Amy & Leanne are back again for the THIRD episode of ...

Something happened to Amy after she had a really good cry the other day, an epiphany of sorts, and it has her feeling very thankful for everything that led to her breakdown. Claire, Amy's friend that joined in on this episode (who also happens to be a cognative therapist), says what Amy experienced after all of her tears totally makes sense. Amy and Claire talk about the power of a good cry, gratitude, gardening, "spending commandments" from @Your.RichBFF (so you don't regret a purchase), 4 things you can do to protect your summer self-care from @KatieGustafson.co, pre-marital counseling, a...

Today’s quote is from Anne Lemott: “Help is often the sunny side of control.” This led Amy to think of a scene from Jerry Maguire: “help me help you.” Kat reveals that she has never seen Jerry Maguire….what??? Amy gives her homework to watch it with Big P. There’s also a line in the movie that a lot of people found very romantic, but it is actually asking someone else to make you happy and that’s not romantic…it’s unhealthy. OUTWEIGH: We are back again sharing Two Things that can ABSOLUTELY be true at the same time: You can be on the journey to self-love and self-worth (and not have self-worth tied to your appearance)....AND still care about what you look like. These things do NOT have to cancel eachother out or stay mutually exclusive. But...there are some very important distinctions that you want to keep in mind--- especially since there are a lot of messages out there telling you that you "shouldn't" ever focus on your appearance or that it is 'vain' to care what you look like. It prevents her from accumulating body fat and gaining weight. Her parents were told by doctors when Lizzie was born, she wouldn’t be able to do simple things on her own and live a “normal life." There are a lot of things in this world that people allow to define them (job, culture, age, role in life, appearance, etc.)...Lizzie talks about what defines her and how she encourages others to discover their purpose. Do you ever ask yourself: “How can I serve today?” One of the simplest ways to get to your highest self (and out of ego) is to serve others. Leanne Ellington joins Amy for this chat and they each share how they have been selfish in the past (and sometimes still can be!) but they both now very much strive for and strongly align with this affirmation: “I am here to be truly helpful.” The desire to give (and not get) puts us in an awesome energetic state that leaves us feeling more full and in tune with who we truly are!  Amy shares 4 quotes about service that offer solid encouragement as you ...

Amy hosted an event the other night with Kelsea Ballerini and Kelsie mentioned this quote: “People come into your life for a reason, a season, or a lifetime.” Amy shared it as the quote for this episode and the main idea behind “reason, season, lifetime” is that all relationships, regardless of their length, have some sort of purpose. Kelsea also has a song about ride or die friendships “If You Go Down (I’m Going Down Too)” so Amy & Kat discussed what they would be willing to do for each other…“Goodbye Earl” style??? How do you feel about your self-awareness? 95% of people think that they’re self-aware, but only 10-15% actually are! Amy shares a simple fix to increase your self-awareness for a more fulfilled life. This "simple fix" is based on research done by Dr. Tasha Eurich and it all boils down to one word. Amy's cousin, Amanda, joins in on this chat and they both share their experience with this one word and how it's impacted the way they look at their lives.  The "Let Them Theory" is so simple, you’re going to start using it right away!! It’s a simple phrase that will give you freedom! When you sa...

This chat ended up being a PSA to set up your emergency contacts in your phone ASAP if you haven't already done it. However, you might want to make sure that you select people that will actually respond if an SOS gets sent out. Amy for sure needs to rethink hers...since she basically could have been murdered or kidnapped this weekend...and nobody would have saved her.  Other topics: - Don't sleep on Facebook Marketplace, it has some good finds! - Is Amy supposed to change her name because Brown isn't her maiden name? - Kat teaches us how to figure out who a lost phone belongs to if you find...

OUTWEIGH: We're bombarded with pressure to look a certain way. It can be overwhelming and constantly worrying about your appearance can distract you from living your life. Amy wants you to feel empowered by rejecting these thoughts and to start practicing radical self-love! To help you REFRAME things, Amy shares positive affirmations/mantras that will help you on your journey towards loving yourself more: mindy, body and soul! The goal of the affirmations is to train your brain to overcome self-sabotaging thoughts. Reframing takes time, but you are worth it, and it can start with 1 simple a...

Amy once went away for a 3-day intensive at a hotel with a therapist that she had never met before because she was so desperate to process an immense amount of pain she was dealing with. She knew that avoiding it would eventually make her sick…like cheesecake zipped up in a Chanel purse. Our negative emotions get zipped away when we don’t deal with them and sit rotting in our bodies. Pain is a part of life, but suffering doesn’t need to be, so finding a way to process negative emotions is imperative.    Watch the ‘Cheesecake in a Chanel Purse’ analogy HERE !!   Amy and Kat also talk about b...

OUTWEIGH: I’ve been on diets and weight loss programs since the age of 7.   I got really good at outsmarting whatever plan or program I was on.   I got really good at “fake it till you make it” and motivational pump-me-ups.   I got really good at tricking the scale, tricking my stomach, and tricking my mind.   I got really good at living my life hungry, tired, miserable and restricted.   Yup I mastered them alright, but there was a major cost.   Food was the boss of me.   And...   I was a slave to my brutal workout routine to ensure that I didn’t gain anything back.   Because no matter how ...

Amy's friend, Chase, joins her for this talk because this same "one thing" has changed his life for the better too! This one thing = stillness!! What is stillness? Well, achieving stillness looks different for everyone, but it requires the mind, body, and spirit to slow down!! All three parts of us have to slow down so much that we quiet our minds enough to receive intuitive guidance, hear from God, and get into the flow. Amy's preferred methods to get still are mediation, prayer, journaling and this mantra from Gabby Bernstein: "Stillness is my key to success." This mantra/belief has been ...
